Communion and Liberation began in Italy in 1954 when Fr Luigi Giussani established a Christian presence in Berchet High School in Milan. At first the group called itself simply Gioventù Studentesca (Student Youth).
"GS" has remained a nickname for the experience of Communion and Liberation on the high school level ever since.
After 50 years, the friendship of those high school students with Fr. Giussani has spread to people of all ages all over the globe and today it is present in over 70 countries and more than 20 states around the US.
Why do we meet?
In the words of Fr. Giussani to those first high school students, "We call students who call themselves Christians and those who want to decide whether or not to remain Christians, to judge Christianity objectively…We tell students that in order to understand Christianity, in order to judge it, you have to get together and try it, and see how life, with all its interests, when approached from the Christian point of view can be explained, can be 'made the most of.'"
The Communion and Liberation group at Stepinac High School meets every Wenesday at 2:45PM to 3:30PM in Room 111.
We have trips and charitable work each month as well as a yearly winter and summer vacation with "GS" groups from all over the United States. New students are always welcome.
