This course is an introduction to college level literature. Students will study selections from various forms of literature in order to develop critical insight and will exercise these skills through written assignments. Students will also focus on certain literary elements and writing techniques. 

At the end of this course, you will

• Know the elements of literary genres.
• Be able to identify the topics and themes contained in certain forms of literature.
• Understand how literary elements contribute to a written work.
• Be able to write essay/research papers that will evaluate/critique a work of literature.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Grade will be determined by a combination of assignments including: tests, quizzes, homework, class work, class participation (includes readings), projects, presentations, and research papers. Late papers or projects will be accepted one day after the assigned due date; however, there will be a ten point deduction from the final grade. If homework is not completed by the assigned due date, the grade is a zero. 

*Any assignment which is typed must be done in Times New Roman, 12 pt font, and 1” margins. Points will be deducted from the assignment if it is not completed in this format.
