Latin i Honors Syllabus
 

INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS

At the end of this course, you will

  • Understand the basic elements of Latin Grammar and develop a sufficient vocabulary to translate and form simple sentences leading up to the Latin regents after the second year.
  • Have a thorough background in ancient Roman culture and its influences on the modern world and throughout history.


NEEDS AND RESOURCES

Required Background

  • A fundamental background in English grammar and an open mind.

Required Materials

  • Wheelock’s Latin 6th Edition, Frederick Wheelock
  • Notebook and folder for handouts
  • Pen or pencil

 

COURSE SCHEDULE

In the first quarter the following topics will be covered:

            1. Verbs; First and Second Conjugation

            2. Nouns and Cases; First Declension

            3. Second Declension: Masculine Nouns and Adjectives

            4. Second Declension Neuters; Adjectives


POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

General Rules:

Students are expected to:

  • be on time to class
  • bring textbook, notebook and calculator to class
  • have homework out and ready to be checked
  • take class notes on a daily basis
  • demonstrate a respectful classroom attitude
