INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS
The course will be an in depth study of the formation of the United States. The class will start with the exploration of The New World and conclude with a look into current events. Focus will be given to middle sections dealing with formation of modern American Society.
At the end of this course, you will
- Be prepared for the material relevant to the AP U.S. History Test
- Have an understanding of how and why the United States Government formed
- Be able to relate historical foundations to current events

To successfully complete this course, you will need
- The American Nation 12th Edition
- Voices of The American Nation vol. 1&2
- Study Guide for The American Nation vol. 1&2
Additional Print Resources
- Students should stay up to date on current events using Credible Newspapers; e.g. The New York Times
Online Resources
- Students should also feel comfortable using Credible News Websites; e.g. CNN.com

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
General Rules:
Students are expected to be able to contribute to the class in an intelligent way. Participation and the ability to convey knowledge will be a large part of the way in which students learn and retain the material.
Grading Policies:
Students will have a series of tests, which will not be limited to single chapters. As AP students, the class will be tested on multiple chapters at once, to get them used to the format of a standard AP U.S. History Test.
Students will also be graded on participation, home work, and a number of essays per quarter.
