General Format

A list of works cited must be included with every paper or project for which you have used another person's work.  Use the following guidelines when writing your Works Cited page.

Always follow your teacher's directions for formatting.
  • Include your Works Cited page at the end of your paper or project.
  • All general MLA formatting rules concerning spacing, font size, margin size, etc. remain the same for your Works Cited Page.  Be consistent.
  • Begin your Works Cited list on a new page.  Be sure to continue numbering your pages.
  • Type "Works Cited" at the top, center of the page.  Do not underline, italicize, bold, etc. the words "Works Cited."
  • List works alphabetically by the author's last name.  If there is no author, alphabetize by the title of the work.
  • Indent the second line of an entry 5 spaces.
