FAQ

Why should I support these needs?

Archbishop Stepinac must renovate and improve its facilities in order to maintain programs, and remain competitive with other private and public schools.  We are proud of our beautiful building and campus and through proactive facility planning we will address both present and future needs.

What is the total cost of the needs?

To meet the needs of the students and faculty and to prepare for a strong future, Archbishop Stepinac has identified needs in the range of $5 million for renovation and endowment.

How strong is the academic program?

Efforts by the school administration to return Stepinac to its tradition of academic rigor have paid off.   As part of the recent strategic planning process, Stepinac compared favorably with other Catholic school choices when measured by SAT scores, Advanced Placement course offerings, teacher/student ratios, number of electives offered and other criteria.  For example Stepinac offers sixteen Advanced Placement courses, including Latin,  where Iona Prep offers eleven.  Stepinac is accredited by the New York State Board of Regents and Middle States Association and graduates attend outstanding local colleges and universities as well as some of the finest institutions in the country.

Is there a chance Stepinac will close?

No, the school is in no danger of closing.  The school consistently operates “in the black” and is able to maintain a balanced budget without requiring support from the Archdiocese.  In fact, fundraising efforts have made it possible to maintain an affordable tuition while also investing in the school’s infrastructure.

Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes.  The amount contributed is deductible to the full extent provided by law.

How do I know my contribution will be properly managed?

All donations will be managed by the Stepinac Foundation.  The Board of Directors of the Foundation is comprised of alumni with expertise in financial planning, management and related legal issues.  A separate Foundation account has been created for this initiative and expenditures and project progress will be fully disclosed in future annual reports.

What if I am unable to complete my pledge?

A pledge is a promise; it is not legally binding.  Archbishop Stepinac High School is dependent on the generosity and ability of its constituents to financially support this campaign, but you are under no obligation to fulfill your pledge if your own personal financial circumstances change.  While we hope that you will not experience any financial difficulties, the Office of Advancement will work with you to accommodate unforeseen personal situations.

How long will I have to meet my pledge?

We are asking constituents to fulfill their pledges over a three-year period.  Doing so allows you to be recognized for a generous donation while managing the financial commitment over a designated period of time.

I already give to the Annual Fund and Special Events.  Why should I support these needs?

These needs are not supported through donations to the Annual Fund or Special Events.  Archbishop Stepinac High School is grateful for all the donations it receives through the Annual Fund and Special Events.  Donations through the Annual Fund and Special Events are needed every year and are not designated for capital improvements, renovation, and endowment.  The Annual Fund supports the ongoing annual operating budget.

How much am I expected to give?

Charitable giving is a very personal decision.  Archbishop Stepinac High School is seeking support from many different constituents: parents, alumni, community leaders, local businesses, corporations, foundations and staff.  Each constituent will be approached in as personal a way as possible.  A pledge to Archbishop Stepinac is a unique opportunity for you to make a difference in the education of current students and to be a part of a legacy to future generations of students.  Ultimately, we ask that you consider your financial commitment in terms of what the school means to you, your family and the students.
