Stepinac Welcomes a Group of
Students from China for
2013-14 School Year

Archbishop Stepinac High School faculty and staff recently welcomed a group of students from China for the 2013-14 school year, adding to its reputation as a regional leader in assisting students of varied backgrounds. In partnership with EduOne, which sponsors and has placed thousands of international students in schools throughout the country, Stepinac will be hosting students from China for the first time. The school has previously worked with EduOne to invite international students to its education program. In conjunction with the program, Father Collins visited China this summer where he met with the students’ families to discuss details about the program. The visiting students will be fully integrated members of the Stepinac community and involved in all aspects of school life. On weekends, they will visit museums and other relevant destinations in Westchester and New York City. They will also visit a number of colleges in the area. In addition, EduOne arranges residential accommodations and a broad range of other services for its international students. The Stepinac students will reside at the YMCA in White Plains where they will be mentored by professional staff. A Stepinac staff member, who is fluent in Mandarin and has lived in China, will serve as liaison to the students. The director of EduOne, who lives in Korea, will be in New York for the first three months of the school year to offer additional assistance. Additionally, Stepinac will work with local colleges to provide two interns to work with the visiting students. One is pursuing a career in education to become TEFL-certified, a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language and the other is a graduate student who will work as a guidance counselor for the international students.
