Cross Country Head Coach

Chin (George) Yam

My name is Coach Yam, and I am the new head cross country coach for the 2026 season. I am a husband and a father of three. Running has been a central part of my life since middle school; I ran cross country and track all four years of high school and all four years of college at SUNY Stony Brook. For the past 10 years, I have been working toward a personal goal of running a marathon in all 50 states. So far, I have completed 35 states and run 38 marathons in total. I will be running the 2026 Yonkers Half Marathon this September.

Professionally, I have been teaching math for over 25 years and currently teach at Saunders High School in Yonkers. I coached cross country and track early in my teaching career, and coaching opportunities opened up for me again four years ago when I served as an assistant and then head coach for the Yonkers track and cross country program. Since cross country was discontinued in Yonkers, I feel fortunate to have found a new opportunity to share my passion for running here at Stepinac.

Thank you for welcoming me into the athletic program and the wider Stepinac family. Who's ready to run?
